Food & Cooking

Eating food is your primary source of health restoration in Hytale. Raw fruits and vegetables provide only a weak Health Regen I effect; cooking them at a Campfire or Chef's Stove gives significantly better buffs. A Campfire handles single-ingredient cooking (raw → cooked), while the Chef's Stove enables multi-ingredient recipes with stronger and longer-lasting effects.

Food Ingredients Heal Buffs & Duration
Raw fruit / veg Health Regen I (short)
Meat Skewer 1× Stick + 4× Any Raw Meat 10% HP Health Regen II + Health Boost II (2:30)
Caesar Salad Chef's Stove recipe 15% HP Health Regen III + Stamina Boost III (6:00)
Apple Pie Rare Chef's Stove recipe (buy from Rootling Merchant) 15% HP Health Regen III + Stamina Boost III (6:00)
Pumpkin Pie Rare Chef's Stove recipe (buy from Rootling Merchant) 15% HP Health Regen III + Stamina Boost III (6:00)

Unlocking Recipes

You can discover new recipes by dropping ingredient combinations into a Campfire. Rare recipes (Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie) are sold by the Rootling Merchant inside the Forgotten Temple for 2× Greater Essence of Life each. Skewers and Salads are the most affordable early-game options until you unlock Pie recipes.

Healing Potions

Potions restore health in two phases: an immediate burst the moment you drink, then a second heal 5 seconds later. You need to stay alive during those 5 seconds to receive the full benefit — so potion timing and positioning matter.

Potion Instant Heal Delayed Heal (5 sec) Total Stack Size
Lesser Healing Potion 15% +15% 30% 5
Healing Potion 25% +35% 60% 5
Greater Healing Potion 25% +50% 75% 10

Don't Panic-Chug

Because the second phase takes 5 seconds to land, you need to avoid getting hit after drinking — otherwise you waste half the potion. Use potions proactively when you drop below half health, not when you're already critical. Combine with food buffs for the best recovery window.

Healing Totem

The Healing Totem is a deployable item that creates an area-of-effect heal around it, restoring health to you and any nearby allies over time. You can only have one active at a time, but it has unlimited uses once crafted.

Effect

Heals 5 HP per second for 10 seconds — approximately 32 HP total — to all players within range.

Crafting

Requires a Tier 2 Arcanist's Workbench. Ingredients: 50× Essence of Life, 20× Thorium Ingot, 20× Greater Healing Potion.

Usage

Deploy it before or during a tough fight. It heals allies too, making it especially strong in group dungeon runs. See the Items & Crafting guide for workbench progression.

Status Effects

Food and combat apply status effects — both buffs from eating and debuffs from enemies. The three confirmed combat debuffs are Burn, Freeze, and Poison.

Effect Type Source
Health Regen (I / II / III) Buff Food — tier depends on recipe (raw fruit = I, Skewer = II, Salad/Pie = III)
Health Boost (II) Buff Meat Skewer
Stamina Boost (III) Buff Caesar Salad, Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie
Burn Debuff Applied by certain enemies in combat
Freeze Debuff Applied by certain enemies in combat
Poison Debuff Applied by certain enemies in combat

Before Every Dungeon

  • Eat a Salad or Pie before entering — you want Health Regen III and Stamina Boost III active.
  • Carry at least 2 Healing Potions (Greater if available).
  • Consider crafting a Healing Totem for tougher fights — it heals your whole group.
  • Check your gear before entering. See the Items & Crafting guide for gear tiers.
